Upper St. Martin’s Lane

This bespoke feature canopy leading to The Yards’ landmark redevelopment uses 499 decorative glass panels and unique paint finishes to animate transmitted sunlight, together with reflected and artificial light.  The panels incorporate clear and translucent interlayers, four different versions of Schott NARIMA dichroic glass and polished, low-iron glass contra-panels which are housed in 165 separate aluminium pyramid frames.  The entire canopy is suspended beneath a primary steel frame, incorporating concealed drainage and topped with tailored theatre-style lighting. The multi-disciplinary design and delivery team included Brimelow McSweeney, Studio 29, Michael Barclay Partnership and Nicholas Stephens Construction.

These incredible images were taken by Philip Vile.

In July 2021, The Yards, Covent Garden was awarded Build Black Better Platinum recognition.
