Wolfgang Buttress’ The Hive

Designed by Wolfgang Buttress as part of the UK Pavilion at Expo Milano 2015, The Hive consists of over 80 individually shaped, laminated glass panels, 39 of which interlock to form the 100 square metre walk-on, slip-resistant floor. The surrounding glass balustrade is separate from the main structure, providing safety and security to the enclosure. Working for Department for International Trade, formerly UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), IPIG were responsible for the initial design and installation of this temporary structure, after which they successfully dismantled and relocated it to its current home in Kew Gardens, London.
